20 Summer Vocab words to boost your English vocabulary

The summer heat continues on here in the Northern Hemisphere!

Here is an extended list of intermediate summer vocabulary words that will be useful for you, {$name}:

#1 Heatwave 

Definition: A prolonged period of excessively hot weather.

Example: “During the heatwave, temperatures soared above 100 degrees for a week.”

Definition: The amount of water vapor in the air.

Example: “The high humidity made it feel much hotter than it actually was.”


breeze

#3 Breeze

Definition: A gentle wind.

Example: “A cool breeze from the ocean provided relief from the midday heat.”


English Vocab - Sunburn

#4 Sunburn

Definition: Reddening and inflammation of the skin caused by overexposure to the sun.

Example: “After a day at the beach, John had a painful sunburn on his shoulders.”


English Vocabulary Barbeque

#5 Barbecue

Definition: An outdoor meal or party where food is cooked on a grill.

Example: “We had a barbecue in the backyard to celebrate the Fourth of July.”


Sweltering - English Vocabulary

#6 Sweltering

Definition: Uncomfortably hot.

Example: “The sweltering heat made it hard to do anything outside.”


PICNIC - English Vocabulary

#7 Picnic

Definition: An outdoor meal in which each person brings food to share.

Example: “We had a lovely picnic in the park with sandwiches and lemonade.”


Ice Cream truck - English vocabulary

#8 Ice cream truck

Definition: A vehicle that sells ice cream, usually driving through neighborhoods.

Example: “The sound of the ice cream truck brought all the children out to the street.”


Sunblock

#9 Sunblock

Definition: A cream or lotion that protects the skin from the harmful effects of the sun.

Example: “Ivory applied sunblock to avoid getting sunburned.”


BEACHCOMBING

#10 Beachcombing

Definition: Searching along the beach for items of interest or value.

Example: “They spent the morning beachcombing and found some beautiful shells.”


Lifeguard

#11 Lifeguard

Definition: A person responsible for the safety of swimmers at a beach or pool.

Example: “The lifeguard blew his whistle to warn the swimmers about the strong current.”


Sandcastle

#12 Sandcastle

Definition: A small model of a building made of sand, typically by children on a beach.

Example: “Maddox spent hours building an elaborate sandcastle.”


Popsicle

#13 Popsicle

Definition: A frozen treat on a stick.

Example: “My kids love eating popsicles on a hot summer day.”


Flip flops

#14 Flip-flops

Definition: Simple sandals held on the foot by a thong between the big toe and the second toe.

Example: “She wore her flip-flops to the beach.”


Campfire

#15 Campfire

Definition: An outdoor fire used for warmth or cooking, often associated with camping.

Example: “We gathered around the campfire to roast marshmallows.”


Sunrise

Definition: The time in the morning when the sun first appears.

Vacation

Sunblock

#18 Sunscreen (Same as sunblock, but we use both words)

Definition: A lotion or cream that protects the skin from UV rays.

Example: “Applying sunscreen is essential to protect your skin from sun damage.”


Swimming pool

#19 Swimming pool

Definition: A man-made basin filled with water for swimming.

Example: “Sometimes I think my kids second home is the swimming pool.”

Tourist

#20 Tourist

Definition: A person who is traveling or visiting a place for pleasure.

Example: “My city here in Portugal is filled with tourists during the summer months.”
