Can you take a break from language learning?

I ask myself this question because I am currently learning Turkish and I’ve been studying SO much that I feel myself burning out a little. I’m losing my motivation and I’m so tired all the time.

But what if I lose all that I have gained if I take a break from language learning? Will I find my motivation again?

Do you ever wonder this same question? I think that language learning takes a LOT of concentration, energy, and focus. It can be mentally exhausting.

Taking a break can give your brain a chance to relax and PROCESS the information that you have learned instead of constantly inputting new information

Taking a break can also help you maintain your motivation and enthusiasm for learning. You can re-evaluate your goals and priorities and remind yourself of why you’re learning that language.

Sometimes learning a language can be all consuming and taking a break can give you a chance to pursue other hobbies and interests that you may have.

So, how do you know when it is time to take a break from language learning?

Here are some signs that you may need a break:

  • You feel mentally exhausted and overwhelmed
  • You are struggling to retain new information
  • You are losing motivation and enthusiasm for learning
  • You are neglecting other areas of your life, such as work or socializing

If you are experiencing any of these signs, it may be time to take a break.

Here are some tips for taking a break from language learning:

  1. Set a time frame: Decide how long you want to take a break for. It could be a few days, a week, or even a month. Setting a specific time frame can help you to stick to your break and avoid feeling guilty or anxious about not studying. (Which is my problem. I always feel guilty if I’m not studying)
  2. Plan other activities: Use your break as an opportunity to explore other interests and hobbies.
  3. Review what you have learned: Take some time to review what you have learned so far. This can help you to consolidate your knowledge and prepare for when you return to your studies.
  4. Stay connected: Keep in touch with your language learning community. This can help you to stay motivated and enthusiastic about learning, even during your break.

Though it may be a hard decision, taking a break from language learning can be a positive and beneficial experience. It can help you to recharge your batteries, maintain your motivation, and pursue other interests. If you are feeling overwhelmed or losing interest in your studies, don’t be afraid to take a break and give yourself the time and space you need to rest and recover. Don’t worry about losing everything you have gained. It will still be there.

I myself will be taking a break this weekend!! What about you?
