What is a Phrasal verb?
A phrasal verb is an idiomatic phrase consisting of a verb and another element, typically either an adverb, as in break down, or a preposition, for example see to, or a combination of both, such as look down on.
We use phrasal verbs all the time in our daily life. You may even be using them without realizing it.
The BEST way to learn phrasal verbs is THROUGH CONTEXT and of course with a lot of practice.
Let’s look at these phrasal verbs:
wake up, get out of bed, dress up, freshen up, put on
1. Wake up:
Definition: To stop sleeping and become conscious or alert.
Example sentences:
– I usually wake up at 7 a.m. on weekdays.
– The loud noise outside woke me up in the middle of the night.
– She set multiple alarms to ensure she wakes up on time for the early meeting.
2. Get out of bed:
Definition: To physically leave the bed and start the day.
Example sentences:
– It’s always difficult for me to get out of bed on cold winter mornings.
– He got out of bed feeling refreshed and ready to tackle the day.
– She reluctantly got out of bed when her alarm went off.
3. Dress up:
Definition: To wear formal or special clothes for a particular occasion.
Example sentences:
– They dressed up in their finest attire for the wedding ceremony.
– She likes to dress up and wear elegant dresses to social events.
– He decided to dress up as a superhero for the costume party.
4. Freshen up:
Definition: To make oneself clean, neat, or presentable, often by washing or grooming.
Example sentences:

– Before the important meeting, she went to the restroom to freshen up her makeup.
5. Put on:
Definition: To dress oneself by wearing clothes or accessories.
Example sentences:
