Our American House Tour (w/ English Keywords)

Check out the house where my family and I live (South Carolina, USA) and learn some English keywords as we tour our house! Plus meet my kids 🙂

To give some perspective, our house is below the average size of a typical American home. It’s ~1200 square feet (112 square meters) while the average is around ~1800 square feet (167 square meters). Newly constructed American homes are averaging ~2500 sq ft!

Welcome to Our American Home Tour

Hello, everyone! I’m so excited to take you on a journey through our lovely abode here in South Carolina. Just imagine rocking chairs, creative decor, and spaces filled with warmth and love. Without further ado, let’s begin the tour!

The Charming Porch

Let’s start right here on our front porch. It’s a genuine piece of southern charm, complete with rocking chairs that invite us to spend time outside every day. Whether we’re enjoying a peaceful morning coffee or an evening chat, the porch is definitely a favorite spot for our family. What do you think—isn’t it time to come on in and take a look around?

Sight Unseen: Our 50-Year-Old Mill House

Believe it or not, we bought this house without ever stepping foot inside it. While we were enjoying some sun in Mexico, my in-laws came to check it out for us. It’s an old mill house, 50 years young, full of history and potential. We’ve poured our hearts into making it a home.

A Fire-Warmed Living Space

One of my favorite places is our living room, and the hearth of the home is naturally our fireplace. Calvin, my husband, worked with wood sourced from his dad’s barn to craft a stunning mantle. Calvin’s mother, an extraordinary abstract artist, gifted us with a piece of her art that hangs above it. Together, these elements radiate a sense of family creativity that’s palpable. Let me share this beautiful gallery wall with you…

“Making a house feel like a home involves filling it with love, stories, and beautiful art.”

Culinary Delights in Our Unique Dining Room

The next stop is our dining room and kitchen. Picture this: Calvin’s dad made our dining table to perfectly fit the narrow space. It’s here that we gather, share stories, and of course, indulge in good food. Our mornings start at the breakfast bar, a staple in our daily rhythm. We have such fond memories around this table, surrounded by family.

Transforming Our Kitchen

Once wallpapered with tired and faded patterns, our kitchen underwent a transformation. Now, with new granite countertops and a stylish backsplash crafted by Calvin, it’s a delight for any cooking enthusiast. The original appliances remain, a sweet nod to the house’s past. (And yes, there will be a fridge reveal another day!)

Embrace Peace in the Bedroom

Our bedroom is a haven of tranquility. A king-size bed awaits with a headboard Calvin built using barnwood and a gentle whitewash. The TV is there, although it sees more of our kids’ dance parties than anything else! It’s in quiet moments that this space feels most special.

A Luxurious Bathroom Retreat

Our bathroom is an expanse of comfort, boasting a spacious layout with a much-loved bathtub. My Brazilian friends always seem bemused by its presence—though here in America, it’s quite the norm. Calvin’s carpentry skills are on display once again with practical, stylish shelving that’s both beautiful and functional.

My Sanctuary Closet

I mustn’t forget my closet—it’s as spacious as it is serene. This spot sometimes doubles as a retreat when I need a moment, however brief, from the bustling household. Imagine relaxing there for a moment of peace.

Creative Spaces for the Kids

Step into the kids’ room, where you’ll find their favorite toys on display—especially Maddox’s incredible Lego creations. This room also serves multiple purposes. It’s Cairo’s bedroom, it hosts our laundry facilities, and even provides additional pantry storage. We’ve learned to make the most of every inch from our time living in Europe.

Calvin’s Multifunctional Office

At last, we come to Calvin’s office, a dynamic use of space that serves many roles—a video studio, a coffee roasting nook, and his graphic design workstation. Calvin converted part of our garage into this functional room. Truly, he’s a master of all trades!

Endless Summer Fun by the Pool

The final highlight of our home is our pool, where summer is endless and laughter abundant. We share this space with our Airbnb guests—a wonderful way to interact and share our little slice of paradise.
