Check out my video for a fun way to learn the 5 senses in English (ESL).
Here are the five senses in English:
-
Sight
Sight is the sense that allows us to see the world around us. We use our eyes to perceive colors, shapes, and sizes, enabling us to enjoy the beauty of nature and understand the details of our surroundings.
Example Sentence
I love watching the sunset over the ocean because the colors are so vibrant, with the sky turning shades of pink, orange, and purple.
-
Hearing
Hearing is the ability to perceive sound through our ears. We use this sense to listen to music, understand spoken language, and be aware of various noises in our environment.
Example Sentence
When I listen to my favorite music, I can hear the beat, melody, and lyrics that make the song so enjoyable.
-
Taste
Taste is the sense that lets us experience different flavors through our taste buds. When we eat, our tongue helps us distinguish between sweet, sour, salty, and bitter tastes, making food enjoyable.
Example Sentence
The ice cream tasted delicious; it had a sweet and creamy flavor that melted in my mouth.
-
Smell
Smell is the sense that allows us to perceive different scents through our nose. We use this sense to enjoy the aroma of flowers, identify various foods, and be aware of different odors in our surroundings.
I love the smell of flowers. Flowers in the garden have a lovely fragrance that fills the air, making it a pleasure to take a stroll outside.
-
Touch
Touch is the sense that enables us to feel sensations through our skin. We use touch to experience textures, temperatures, and pressure, making it possible to enjoy the warmth of sunlight, the softness of a pet’s fur, or the coolness of water.
I enjoy the warmth of the sun touching my skin during a sunny day.
